Valentines For Bro's

Yes alright, we are all bored about hearing how you are going to spend valentines day with your loved one, or how hard it is being all alone, or even how your so against the whole idea because it’s just a marketing stint designed to get more money from consumers. Well hold on just one second aren’t we forgetting one element ... BROMANCE.

Yes, how could we forgot those men just yearning to spend quality time with their straight male other half’s.

A Bromance, as described in the Urban Dictionary is the complicated love and affection shared by two straight males.

So girls don’t be upset if you are second choice, because this is a special relationship that is unexplainable to someone who hasn’t experienced it. Although if you are one of those lucky guys to have experienced a Bromance then of course you will be spending valentines day with your fellow Bro. Doing Bro activities like playing video games, participating in sport, and cuddling up on the sofa to watch a good old RomCom.

Ladies, make your life easier by not asking questions that will ultimately lead to nowhere…and remember you will always have trusty Ben and Jerry to have your back, so just let the fellas get on with whatever it is that they do.

Seven Pychopaths

The film is definitely something I haven’t seen before, its not your average predictable Hollywood blockbuster, instead it knits together some very different stories to create a film where you are actively thinking about how it all fits together.

The plot follows Marty (Farrell) a struggling alcoholic, writer trying to finish his screenplay, "Seven Psychopaths" along with his best friend, Billy (Rockwell) who is an unemployed actor and part time dog thief, and wants to help Marty by keeping him focused and inspired by any means necessary.

Hans (Walken) is Billy's dog-napping partner in crime, he is an older religious man with a violent past, as we see later on in the movie. Charlie (Harrelson) is the psychopathic gangster whose beloved dog, Billy and Hans have just stolen. His unpredictable violence and obsessive love for his dog creates the humorous baseline of the plot.

The film has elements resembeing Tarantino with its ruthless black humour and excessive gore, although it is more then just an imitation. There are smart references to lazy movie making, something that has bceone the norm in Hollywood.

Also Billy (Rockwell) uses the film to deconstruct classic movie conventions in a mocking way, claiming that anything is allowed on screen as long as the animals survive.

The final supposed dramatic scene is the most average shoot out ever known, which does well to create a kind of comedy only the more avid movie lovers and also cinema cynics would understand.

If your bored of your standard movie sequence then give Seven Psychopaths, as it will at the least provide you with some new footage concepts.

The Human Centipede Review

Well it is safe to say that I will never be getting that hour and a half of my life back!

It was a stupidly disturbing film, with very little plot, absolutely no character evolvement and very boring camera techniques. I don't think I will be looking into the writer and director, Tom six's career any time soon!

The film is exactly what it says on the tin, the care of two female american backpackers breaks down in the middle of nowhere (a typical horror film cliche) so they find a house and go in and ask to use the phone. Only to be greeted by a very odd, human hating surgeon, who drugs them and puts them in his home made hospital in the basement. They are then joined by a Japanese man who is the front of the centipede and so therefore the lead and speaker and decision maker for them, the fact that he is Japanese and so subtitled throughout would only seem useful if the filmmakers are that desperate that they have to try and entice other countries into watching this so called film.

Most of the film is about the lead up to the surgery to make this creature, which is then done very quickly and followed by the surgeon treating them like a dog, by trying to get then to walk together and give him is paper.

The film ends in an undramatic shoot out from two stupid police men who do everything against their handbook, making it very hard for the audience to believe in.

I understand that people have to think outside of the box to create a new idea for a horror film, but this is juts too far and misses out the main components altogether. It is neither an intense sweaty palm scare or a bloody gore- fest. Instead it follows a psychotic surgeon, with three individuals sewn together in horrible places. The audience cannot sympathise with these characters, because they barely talk or have big roles.

I therefore guarantee that the watching of this film will leave you not with fear and anxiety but disappointment and frustration... so don't waste your time!!

Winchester- Bangarang Review

Getting a taxi to the Winchester to beat queuing in the rain, seemed like a good idea on Tuesday, as the latest event there, Bangarang sounded like it was going to be a good one.
Although I think I was a bit premature, and turned up to an empty pub at 11.15 so I waited for it to get busier on the sofa and chatted away to the girls as they painted faces, gave head massages and braided hair all at cheap prices of no more then £3.

The place itself had been transformed, and resembled the inside of an events tent, with different coloured material draped from the ceiling, and bamboo shoots stapled around every beam, and the name 'Bangarang' written in wooden pieces across the stage, which all helped to create a real festival atmosphere.

Blues artist, Rag n bone man and  Rum Committee were headlining that night, but lost their star sparkle as you could see their dressing room at the back of the pub and they simply wandered to the bar to buy their own drinks, walking past us civilians as they did. None the less, when they got round to playing they were great, and had the crowd bobbing along with them. Chanting to some of their old songs, and enjoying some of Rag n bone mans new tracks from his album Bluestown, and they also got treated to some free styling from the pair.

Charlie Postles drove up from Devon to see the gig and said 'It was wicked, they smashed it just like they always do.'

Overall I think the night was a success with good UK music, some happy fans and hopefully a good amount of money raised for the organisers, Youth and Unity.

Neck and nominate hits Bournemouth

Over the last few weeks my Facebook has been flooded with people uploading videos of their Neknominations, and the trend has most definitely hit Bournemouth.

The game involves a person being nominated, which means that they have to drink a pint of whatever they like and then have 24 hours to post this video and nominate other contenders.

The videos that I first saw contained different types of alcohol, being put into a pint glass, and being drank rather quickly, but the latest videos are getting more outrageous by the minute. Now people are getting more creative edition, an edition I saw involved in two friends doing a Mr and Mrs version, having to answer questions about each other an if they got them wrong items were added to their drink, such as mushy peas and cold baked beans... pretty grim. Other videos involved drinking underwater, or snorting lines of protein powder.

This need to adhere to peer pressure and outdo each other is becoming very dangerous, one video I have seen is a boy taking the legal high known as salvia, and clearly not understanding what is going on. Another video, saw a man in Northern Ireland drown after taking part in the game. This promotion of binge drinking and peer pressure, asks the question how far will these people go to compete for attention?

It’s clear that social media can have such an impact on people, but I don’t think its being used in a productive way at all. I’m happy to see that a group of South Africans have used Neknominatiins in a positive way, and have filmed themselves doing a good act of kindness and nominating their friends to do the same, with the ethos ‘change one thing, change everything.’

Therefore I urge you to stop using these Neknominations to show off how much alcohol you can swallow or what condiments you can put on your drink (we already get that you can drink... your students!!) Instead lets use the platform of Neknomianations to promote good deeds and show that there is more to our lives then sleeping and drinking!!

So Long, See You Tomorrow- Bombay Bicycle Club

So Long, See You Tomorrow is the fourth album from indie rock band Bombay Bicycle Club, and has like all of the albums before taken a different approach to the music being played. The bands started off by fitting in playing music, around studying for their GCSE’s and have struggled to find a sound that fitted them. Each album has had a different basis from indie rock, to folk and now with So Long heading down a more electronic-pop route.

One thing that has stayed unchanged is lead singer, Jack Steadman’s trademark shaking voice; he has also brought a selection of new sounds to the album following his world travels. The album starts with Overdone, which involves a crescendo of strings, drums and wind that erupts into an oriental themed collection of delight.
The sound of his globe trotting experience is then carried on through Feel, in which Bollywood style samples are played throughout the track.

Whereas Eyes Off You, takes a slowed down western feel and features a grand piano and harmonising duet.
Carry Me takes on the euphoric electronic vibe and baseline thump, which could see the song being played in clubs around the country. Whilst Home By Now boasts modern R&B rhythms, a different track entirely.

This fourth album has again changed the musical preference of the band; even within the album there are an array of different sounds. Although this unusual mix of music, does make for an interesting and somewhat surprising album.
