Born In The 90s Review
Bournemouth has
finally hosted a night where the DJs actually know what they are doing.
The music was listened to and appreciated by the crowd, quite possibly because
the beats per minute matched up, something that seems to be almost non-existent
in clubs these days. It’s normally a case of a set playlist triggered by button
to boom songs that have been played at least 30 times in the last week alone,
but the Old Firestation's Born in the 90s night was different.
The songs played were a wide selection of 90s classics, and this was the period
in which the majority of current students grew up, so the crowd could sing
along and lose themselves in nostagia.
The DJs played a
variety of music; from head banging rock songs like Rage Against The
Machine,Killing In The Name Of, to sing along pop tunes, like
the Pulp’s,Common People and of course timeless hits
like Will Smith’s Prince of Bel Air made an appearance!
The only flaw of the
evening; why was it so empty? The place was so deserted that there was plenty
of space for enthusiastic dancing. I’m not complaining about the fact it wasn’t
a cramped sweatbox, but I just don’t understand why no one came. It had music
from every genre and songs that everyone knew, but that weren’t overplayed and
featured DJs who were really doing their job.
Tickets are now on
sale for the next Born in the 90s event.
I hope more people attend and show some support for this fantastic night. We
need to support real DJs instead of going to clubs where the magic happens
at the click of a button.

Hunted- Review
Channel 4s Dispatches, has
recently aired a hard hitting documentary, Hunted about the hardships for
homosexuals living in Russia.
The programme shows the events of
a group named “Occupy Pedophilia”, who make it their mission to abuse and humiliate
gay people whilst filming it to put on the internet. The group goes on a ‘safari’,
which involves the enticement of a gay man using deception, back to a flat
which is full of 13 men waiting to ridicule him. The camera crew is pushed into
the bathroom, but their refusal to stop filming protects the innocent man from
a worse outcome.
One man on the show talks to the
camera looking downtrodden, as he describes how he was shot in the eye and left
blind simply because of his sexuality. He explains “Hunting season is open, and
we are the hunted” says one young gay man, who was left blinded after a homophobic
attack on a party that he and other gay men were attending.
A lesbian couple is also
interviewed about their fear that their children will be taken from them, under
the new law that homosexuality must not be ‘promoted’ to children under 18. One
even says, “[The law] would please Hitler.”
This programme brings to light the
fact that some Russians, see ‘pedophile’ and ‘homosexual’ as the same
definition, which creates most of theses problems.
Hunted features gay people being tortured
by vigilantes for 'sport', and it is a very eye opening documentary that shows the
primitive views of people and the government in Russia.

Feb Mixtape
Sweat-
Is the new dance track from Major Lazor features hip-hop vocals from Miss Dynamite alongside the fast EDM created by DJ Laidback Luke. The song is a definite dance song, I can see it being played in clubs (well ones that know good music) as it combines heavy base beats with tribe like noises that you really don't hear in many songs, and some female rap chucked in there as well.
The video complements the music style with its high speed, street dancers covered in UV paint, matched with different close ups of the dancers faces and paint bouncing off the speakers which all works to create a real dance anthem.
Rap legend
Busta Rhymes has released, the second single, Thank
you, from his tenth studio album E.L.E.2 (Extinction Level
Event 2). The collaboration features Q-Tip, Lil Wayne and Kanye West,
alongside sampling from Alicia Myers' 1981
song, I Wanna Thank You. This creates an innovative blend
of a deep tenor, and fast lyrics, against her soulful melody.

Valentines For Bro's
Yes
alright, we are all bored about hearing how you are going to spend valentines
day with your loved one, or how hard it is being all alone, or even how your so
against the whole idea because it’s just a marketing stint designed to get more
money from consumers. Well hold on just one second aren’t we forgetting one
element ... BROMANCE.
Yes,
how could we forgot those men just yearning to spend quality time with their straight male other half’s.
A Bromance, as described in
the Urban Dictionary is the
complicated love and affection shared by two straight males.
So girls don’t be
upset if you are second choice, because this is a special relationship that is
unexplainable to someone who hasn’t experienced it. Although if you are one of
those lucky guys to have experienced a Bromance then of course you will be
spending valentines day with your fellow Bro. Doing Bro activities like playing
video games, participating in sport, and cuddling up on the sofa to watch a
good old RomCom.
Ladies,
make your life easier by not asking questions that will ultimately lead to
nowhere…and remember you will always have trusty Ben and Jerry to have your
back, so just let the fellas get on with whatever it is that they do.
