“She’s Got Sass & Swag”
‘She’s got sass and swag’ shouts a girl on her friends
bouncing shoulders.
As the small sociable
circles, surrounded by their empty cider bottles, awaited the R&B, electro,
new wave collaborative sounds of Solange Knowles. Being the younger sister of
Beyonce Knowles hasn’t shadowed the 26 year old singer-songwriter, as she embraced
the stage wearing stripy harem trousers, a patterned blouse and an afro so big
you could see it from the other side of the festival, whilst she rhythmically
swayed.
The ‘Eat your own ears’ stage was overpowered by the
sprightly cheering of her fans, one of whom shouted that he was going to have a
house party and invite Solange ( good luck!) Her followers carried on their
enthusiasm for her by singing and dancing, if slightly out of control in places,
for a full hour. Only to be rewarded with her final song, that broke into the
UK indie chart, ‘Loosing You.’ The beat allowed the whole crowd to bob in
unison, and the straight forward lyrics meant that everyone could sing along,
no matter how out of tune.
The gig was a welcomed introduction to start to the summer,
and it was accompanied by the jolly and somewhat tipsy festival goers of Field
Day. Who were enjoying their day aimlessly hopping around the meadow and
chanting to the up and coming indie bands that danced onto the stages. Escaping
from any troubles they might have to face outside of the festival gates.
The sun graced us with its warm rays, a welcome ( if rare) weather
contribution that complimented the upbeat music and the soulful voice of
Solange, as she aced her set, and left
the stage with sass and swag still fully intact
